Taylor here!
I've been making bone broth for everyone at the office the last few weeks & wanted the share the recipe ~ because it's SO easy & the recipe makes enough for everyone on the team to nourish themselves with something packed with warm goodness.
INGREDIENTS
8 chicken feet
chicken bones / carcass (any bones you have!)
olive oil or ghee
5 slices of ginger
2 stalks of lemongrass (smashed)
1 red onion (roughly chopped)
3 stalks of green onions
1 celery stalk (roughly chopped)
1 carrot (roughly chopped)
8 cloves garlic (smashed)
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
1 tbsp celtic sea salt
1 tbsp turmeric powder
1 tbsp reishi powder (or a piece half the size of your hand)
⅕ tbsp black pepper seeds (roughly smashed in mortar & pestle)
filtered water – enough to cover everything by 2 inches
METHOD
You can make this in an InstaPot in 3 hours, or on the stove overnight (10ish hours).
In a stock pot over medium heat or in an InstaPot on Sauté mode, sauté the lemongrass, ginger & garlic with the olive oil or ghee. Saute until fragrant. Add the turmeric powder & reishi powder (don’t add the piece yet if you’re using a dried reishi mushroom) and mix in. Add red onions, celery & carrots & cook for a few minutes longer.
Then start filling the pot with water & the rest of the ingredients. Fill the pot with water until all ingredients are covered.
If you’re cooking on the stove, bring everything to a boil. Once boiling, bring it down to a simmer & cover. Simmer for 8-12 hours. After about 20 minutes of simmering, remove the foamy impurities that have floated to the top.
Once it’s simmered for the full amount of time, strain everything out and only drink the liquid! The rest of the ingredients can be tossed (all the nutritional value will be in liquid form, so no need to save anything) – it will also be mush!
If you’re cooking in an InstaPot, once it’s full with water, put the top on (with the pressure gauge closed) & Pressure Cook on high for 3 hours. Once finished, strain everything out and only drink the liquid! The rest of the ingredients can be tossed (all the nutritional value will be in liquid form, so no need to save anything).
Then serve it up & drink as much as you want! And don’t forget to add your favorite flower elixirs! You can also serve it with a slice or two of lime to add a bright citrus note to the broth.
Drink the broth within 3 days, or freeze it!
Enjoy!
